After the last 25 years of chaotic and rapid urban development, 30% of India’s population now lives in towns or cities. By 2031 this will reach 40%, pushing the urban population to 600 million. The country’s 400 urban agglomerations include 27 cities with a population of over a million and seven megalopolises, each with more than five million people, and a growing number of medium cities into which half the urban population of India is packed.

There is a growing use of 20mph (30km/h) speed limits across London, which have been implemented as part of the drive to improve road safety, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists. However, there is a lack of a coherent evidence base which could be used to inform future 20mph policy in London.

The experiences of European cities like London, Milan and Stockholm show that implementing a congestion charging scheme has a positive effect on road user behaviour leading to a better quality of life for residents. However, it also poses challenges for decision makers, technicians, the private sector and users.

In Latin America, where congestion levels are high and continuing to rise in its major cities, there is an opportunity to learn from European  methods to help reduce and manage the problem.

Steer Davies Gleave acted as Commercial and Technical Advisors to CK Investments S.A R.L. (CKI) in their recent acquisition of Eversholt Rail Group.

On 20th January Eversholt Investment Group S.C.S., a consortium comprising 3i Infrastructure plc, Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners and STAR Capital Partners announced it will sell Eversholt Rail Group to CKI.
