Principal Consultant – Research, Insight, Analysis (REF: PL70)

Location: London

Are you an experienced researcher, transport planner or analyst with experience in a consultancy environment? If so we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our Team.

You will have strong research and analytical skills as well as a track record in leading successful projects (time, quality and cost). You will lead transport planning and research projects, coordinate cross-company teams to deliver high-quality work for a diverse client base with complex needs.

You will immediately interact with clients upon joining the Team. We will give you responsibility for leading business development activities, including proposal production and work winning.

The UK Planning Team provides services to our clients on a global basis, delivering projects which engage a number of SDG’s disciplines including development planning, sports and major events, integrated design, sustainable transport, major scheme and design for movement. We provide policy, strategy planning, design and implementation advice underpinned by the highest standards of research, forecasting and economic analysis. 

Essential Requirements:

We are seeking candidates with demonstrable skills and expertise in the planning, design and management of medium to large sized market research and/or monitoring and evaluation projects. In addition, we are looking for candidates who can / who are:

  • Highly numerate with excellent analytical skills, including expertise in Excel
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Able to write in a well-structured and logical way, using a variety of methods to effectively illustrate points and influence peers and clients
  • Develop effective working relationships with clients and potential clients
  • Lead business development activity 
  • Aspire to continuously develop analytical skills through new techniques and software
  • Committed to learn, develop and grow in the role
  • Passionate about changing the world through transport
  • Manage and grow client relationships

Desirable Requirements:

  • A 2:1, ideally in a numerate or a transport-related subject such as Geography, Economics, Engineering or Maths  
  • Access, SPSS and STATA proficient 
  • Significant experience of specifying research and commissioning research agencies
  • MRS member 
  • Spatial analysis expertise
  • Willingness to volunteer during Company time (paid leave, as per our policy)
