Intermediate/Senior Transportation Planner or Engineer (Ref: CA5)

Location: Toronto

We are seeking a passionate Transportation Planner or Engineer to work on sustainable transportation / transit and City-building initiatives in our Toronto office. You will have a strong ability to understand client requirements, work collaboratively within a multi-discipline environment, and deliver high quality integrated multi-modal solutions utilizing your excellent analytical and communication capabilities.

In Toronto we offer a small office environment and the possibility to work on a wide variety of high profile transportation projects including strategic planning, demand forecasting, evaluation and appraisal for road, rail and transit projects, development of Transportation Masterplans, corridor studies and concept development, policy review, development and implementation. Current projects include the Mississauga Transportation Masterplan, Waterfront Transit Toronto stage 2, Metrolinx Fares Strategy.

Role Specification

  • You must have proven project leadership experience in multi-modal transportation master planning, highlighting a particular expertise on active transportation and / or TDM
  • Less experienced candidates with local transportation master plan, active transportation and TDM experience will also be considered
  • Track record in managing projects and undertaking business development activities
  • Deliver outputs independently and delegate to junior colleagues when required
  • Proactive, quick learner who enjoys developing new skills
  • Presenting and explaining original ideas to the team and staff in other SDG departments or offices

Person Specification

  • Strong time management, communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines according to the needs of the business
  • Must be a creative thinker/ problem solver / able to get to the 'essence’ of a project quickly
  • Proven management of small-medium sized projects or work streams on larger projects
  • Be highly numerate and have excellent analytical skills
  • Be keen to gain experience of working on policy, commercial and strategic issues in the transport sector
  • Have good communication skills, including the ability to explain technical details clearly to non-technical audiences and write in a well-structured and logical way
  • Be proficient in Microsoft packages including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and in particular, have an expert knowledge of Excel
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Experience with public sector clients in the GHTA desirable
